Diane von Furstenberg (and some label rantings)

I was lucky enough to grow up with two parents who are fancy pants and I have always loved to look at beautiful clothes. I really do believe that clothing makes the man...(and of course ....the woman). I love how it sets the scene and have always loved costume design. I used to be in charge of the costumes in high school drama and at one point had a dream of even being a designer...(Wells Fargo won that dream battle...hmmmmm)So...I must be an expert right?!

My favorite rule of clothing is to ask yourself...can I wear it in 10 years?...15 years?...50 years? I love classic looks. Looks that accent a woman's curves. The whole waif, pin thin, baggy, shapeless thing has never been a look I have cared for nor have I ever desired that look. Ummm..which is good because I have always sported some pretty mean curves so waif...ha...is not really something I could go for anyway. I don't like scruffy anything, man-anything, (except a man's dress shirt...and well...not in public *wink*). I think tennis shoes look best in the gym and as much as I love the look of athletic somethings (wish I could pull that off) or even the ever adorable Converse...I have yet to ever feel comfortable in any of those things in public.

I love bright colors. I don't typically wear shoes that are not bright colors. I have also embraced my love of mixing brights. I think leopard print goes with almost everything. I love dark jeans and I have never appreciated the worn denim look. I wrinkle my nose at denim with holes in it. Cardigans rule my closet and I am a sucker for nautical stripes. Giant vintage rings are my favorite, I love gold jewelry and of course a pair of pearl earrings.

I will say...I do tend to wear flip flops...a lot and they are my slouchiest and most loved footwear choice. I always end up paying a big price after the warm months because my feet do not want to re-adapt to heels again.

So really this wasn't meant to be a post about MY fashion rules or taste and I am not really a big label person. Don't get me wrong...I love some of the classic designers and some new designers are completely inspiring and I still love Vogue like nothing else but I think that the industry is out of control and I DO believe in paying for quality clothing...BUT when you end up paying a fortune for a plastic flower ring because it is from Chanel...well...I think it's pretty ridiculous. That's when it's no longer about the art and design and quality...it is literally about a label.
(I know...soapbox...soapbox...but seriously...a Chanel suit is timeless...but those Chanel logo earrings...or the plastic resin flower ring...sorry kids...not timeless...in fact...logo=branding and I never want to be branded. Okay...so I get it...I am a total hypocrite...because I realize that I am wearing brands on a constant basis and my love for those famous red-soled shoes is NOTHING but a fantastic form of branding...but you know...this is MY blog and no one reads this and I can think whatever I want. So there..)

Wait...okay this post is titled Diane von Furstenberg right?! I know I COMPLETELY digressed...I meant it to be a quick..."look at the pretty clothes"... post. Alright...I will wrap this up..(get it??!...Diane von Furstenberg joke). I love Diane von Furstenberg. Her fall line has released and it's beautiful. She always has such stunning dresses. Her classic wrap dresses are so flattering and sexy. These are dresses I am dreaming of and in reality...are pretty affordable for a "designer" label. Here are two of my favorites...
